Emergency Lighting

When it comes to emergency lighting every business or occupied building is legally required to have this in place. This normally refers to escape lighting which provides a safe exit for staff or visitors. All emergency escape and exit routes in the UK must be lit to a minimum of one lux whilst an emergency is taking place. Light is provided by a back-up battery which should stay fully charged during normal operation. Without faults, these should have enough power to run for around 3 hours after power initially fails.

It is important that all emergency lighting is maintained and checked on a regular basis. According to The Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997 and BS5266 Part 1, every building owner must test emergency lighting systems regularly and ensure they are in full working order.

Outsourcing your emergency lighting installation, testing, and maintenance can save you time and stress. Our highly trained fitters will arrive on site promptly and offer a professional and friendly service. We will always ensure that minimal disruption occurs to your or your staff.

What are Condition Reports?

An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) provides insight into the safety of electrical installations, fixtures, and fittings. Formally known as the Periodic Inspection Report (PIR), an EICR should be carried out at various times during the lifespan of your home or business. Furthermore, there are five main aims of a condition report and knowing about these can help you to understand how they work. These aims are:

  • Record results of inspection and testing to ensure electrical installations are safe to be used until the next inspection
  • Discover and repair any damage or wear and tear
  • Find any parts of the electrical installation that don’t meet IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology) Wiring Regulations
  • Discover anything that may cause high temperatures or potentially electric shocks
  • Provide an important record of the installation at time of inspection and for later testing

There are generally two types of condition reports. These are visual condition reports and periodic inspection reports. Visuals do not include testing and are only suitable if the installation has been recently changed. Periodic reports are what is normally recommended as these test installations to discover if there is any hidden damage. When having a condition report carried out, you should always use a registered electrician.

Electric Shower Installations

Installing a new electric shower should always be carried out by a Part P-certified electrician. Our team are able to install, upgrade and check the electrical wiring to make sure that your shower is in safe working order. The size of the electric cables and fuses in a shower differ and depend on the total kW (power) of the shower. Our team will be on hand to determine what cable and fuses you need, ensuring that your electric shower is safely installed.

Having knowledge of how an electric shower works and what types are available can give a useful insight into if they are the right shower for you. Electric showers combine electricity and water, which is why you should always get them installed by a professional. The showers work by drawing on cold water and delivering hot water on demand. The cold water becomes hot water instantly as it is heated by a heating element within the fitting which is completely sealed. Electric showers are typically very economical and have no hot water wastage. The higher the kilowatt rating, the better the flow performance.
